The mammoth Sumpter Valley Gold Dredge with Gift Shop is an Oregon State Heritage Area  (day use only). It is currently open for FREE public walking tours and  Handicap Accessible! www.friendsofthedredge.com

Three Huge Flea Markets - (Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day)
          Sumpter's population swells from 177 to 4,000+ during these events

We even have plenty of nearly tame deer who mow grass every evening before dusk,
  right downtown on the main drag, Mill Street

Nearby Attractions 

Bourne - 8 miles away. An old gold mining ghost town.

Granite - 15 miles away. An old gold mining town with groceries,
gas station, cafe', bar and lodging.

Whitney - 13 miles away. Home to an old sawmill with some original buildings
still standing.

Phillips Lake - 9 miles away. Great fishing, boating, skiing and camping.

Powder River - home to some tremendous trout fishing, miles of fishing, right from the roadside.

Elkhorn Mountains - all around fun for wilderness camping, hiking and fishing
